Overview
This ITS Architecture is a roadmap for transportation systems integration in a defined region. The architecture was developed through a cooperative effort by the region's transportation agencies and represents a shared vision of how each agency's systems will work together in the future, sharing information and resources to provide a safer, more efficient, and more effective transportation system for travelers in the region. This 2019 Update was completed with input from stakeholders throughout the state and uses the latest versions of ARC–IT Version 8.2.75. The architecture provides an overarching framework that spans all of the region's transportation organizations and individual transportation projects.
The Nevada Department of Transportation originally developed a Northern Regional Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Architecture in 2004 and Southern Regional ITS Architecture in 2005. The original ITS Architectures were updated in 2007, 2013, and 2015 to reflect the changes in the National ITS Architecture (NIA) at the time and the updated ITS infrastructure, systems, and functions in the state that warranted an updated Architecture. Since 2015, the ITS infrastructure and communication has changed between agencies, travelers, and statewide functions. This 2019 Update to the ITS Architectures provides a comprehensive documentation of the existing and future plans for the ITS infrastructure, systems and agency responsibilities for ITS functionality within the state. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Final Rule 23 CFR 940 (Rule 940) requires that ITS projects, for highways/streets as well as transit, conform to the Rule 940 to be able to receive federal funding.
Description
The Statewide ITS Architecture places its emphasis on the areas of the state outside of the urbanized metropolitan areas. The Statewide ITS Architecture encompasses commercial vehicles, autonomous vehicles, local/county ITS infrastructure and systems, Carson City ITS infrastructure and systems, and NDOT District 3 ITS infrastructure and systems. This architecture also includes traffic operations coordination and communication between various TMCs throughout the State and with neighboring states.

Geographic Scope
The Statewide ITS Architecture geographically encompasses the entire state and all NDOT Districts and local/county agencies outside of the two urbanized metropolitan areas of Reno/Sparks and Las Vegas.
